Kindergarten through 2nd Grade

PASSPORTS TO ADVENTURE

These are projects that focus on names, classroom signage and systems, core words, telling time, and so on. 

Standards: Reading, Language, Math, Health, Science.

Field Trip Nametags (K.RF, 1.RF, 2.RL.7)

Students make durable name tags to use on class adventures or in learning groups. Tools and methods vary based on age and project details.

Laser-cut Clock (K.N.CC.A, 1.GM.C, 2.GM.D)

Students make a large wall clock for the classroom or individual clocks for home. Students can customize the clock face in Adobe Illustrator or acrylic paint, depending on available time and skill level.

Habit Stacker Mobile (K.Personal Care, 1.LS 1.2)

Students make and decorate a hanging mobile for the classroom or home. The Habit Stacker helps to reinforce positive morning and evening routines.

SCIENCE CAMP

Projects designed to introduce younger students to the sciences through hands-on creativity.

Standards: Math, Health, Science.

Clothes Pin Insects (K.ESS2.2, 1.LS1.1)

Students make insects out of clothes pins, wire, and acrylic paint. Instruction includes discussion of insect color, number of legs, etc. to better understand their unique places in the ecosystem.

Solar Prints (K.ESS3.1, 1.PS4.3)

This one is part scavenger hunt, part science lesson. Students will collect and identify plants, flowers, other interesting items from nature, then make a solar print of their found objects on light-sensitive paper.

Life Cycle Classroom Display (K.ESS.2,  1.LS1.1,2.LS4.1)

Your students learn a bout nature and create life cycle displays for the classroom. Classroom curriculum can inform which life cycles are depicted in the displays (local trout, for instance), or pick a couple of animals and start making!

MISHMASH MATH

Hands-on crafting and building projects that incorporate math at your classroom's level.

Standards: Math, Science

Math Maze Board Game

Students create individual components of a board game, or design and make the whole game! At its core, the game require solving math problems to advance player position.

Wooden Ratio Robot 

Building a ratio robot helps students develop basic measuring skills and an understanding of ratios by designing their own unique wooden block figure.

Custom Key Chain + Phone Stand

This a great introduction to Adobe Illustrator and basic design for the laser cutter. Students will be challenged to either customize or design their own key chain that doubles as a phone stand.

Laser-etched Labyrinth 

Another fun introduction to incorporating Adobe Illustrator into the design engineering process! Finger labyrinths are a tool often used to calm its user by tracing paths craved into wood. Students will draw their own labyrinths then finish the project on the laser cutter.

High School

CREATURE COMFORTS

These projects are build projects for all sorts of critters, from bats to bees. During the design process, students learn a little about the science of the creatures needs and how those needs are incorporated into their builds.

Mason Bee Houses

Mason bees are very picky and  have some specific requirements for their homes. Students will learn about those limitations and opportunities to get creative in designing a custom mason bee home for our pollinator friends.

Bat Boxes 

We don't often see them, but bats are everywhere and they're a beneficial part of our ecosystem. Students will learn a bit about bats and follow instructions to assemble a cozy place for our flying friends to snuggle up.
